Isabela town goes high-tech

JONES, Isabela (14 December) -- This second class town lying on the Northern Sierra Madre mountain ranges is now going high-tech as the internet-ready computer system has been in place according to its local chief executive.

Mayor Florante Raspado said that the on-line connection of the town is a big help not only to the local government but also to the students who are now saving time and money to travel to nearby Santiago City to avail of internet services there.

"The town government's transaction has been fully automated, making transaction easier for clients. Now, Jones has bested most towns in the province in its information communication technology since the computerization program was planned in 2003", the Mayor added.

The town which gained national notoriety in the past due to a series of encounters and ambuscades staged by communist terrorists at its far flung villages that claimed the lives of Army Col. Josefino Manayao and Mayor Jess Sebastian maintains a local government website to prop up the town's program and activities, said Mario Duerme, Municipal Accountant and head of the Community E-Center that provides readers and researchers with useful information about the town, its services, tourism, trade, commerce and industry, and other local government programs, including encoding, printing and computer related jobs.

The Municipal Accountant said the computerization program also paved the way for a systematized real property tax program, the business permits data files, the electronic new government accounting system.

Jones implemented the program with the technical help extended by the programmers of the Department of Science and Technology, Commission on Information and Communications Technology and the National Computer Center in line with the Electronic Commerce Act. (PIA-Isabela) [top]
