PIA Press Release

Let's get on and serve Asuncion town, mayor says

ASUNCION, Davao del Norte (31 January) -- "Serbisyo lang sa ta. (Let's serve.) Let's avoid hitting below the belt. Bawat isa sa atin may tungkulin sa kapwa. (Each of us has our own duty towards others.)

Municipal Mayor Leopoldo Monteroso of Asuncion shared this thought in an interview after delivering his last State of the Town Address (SOTA) which highlighted his accomplishment in his stint as a municipal mayor for three terms.

But even as he soon takes exit, he is not free from mudslings which he has brushed aside. "Dili ko matandog anang hitting below the belt. (I would not be moved with hitting below the belt.)

He cautioned local politicians against doing this strategy to gain edge over opponents, saying electorates in the municipality usually don't bite such but would rather look at performance and platform.

Monteroso is the concurrent president of the Municipal Mayors League Davao del Norte Chapter.

In his remaining six months in service, Monteroso has set to complete core projects he can leave as among his legacies to Asuncion.

The Municipal Government of Asuncion got the approval from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) for its P19.6 million loan for the construction of a new public market and a transport terminal.

Part of the loan will be used to purchase units of motorcycle that can be used as service vehicles and a service unit for the office of the municipal vice mayor.

His administration will finally put up the Economic Enterprise Department with a plantilla position given to the person tasked to manage the said office.

Monteroso has also set to follow up the release of funds from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office for the construction of a Philippine National Police station.

He bared that he was also able to secure a patrol car and an ambulance for his town.

He took pride that his administration had made the Department of Energy approve an energization project for puroks without lights.

"I will follow up the release of fund from the Department of Energy for the energization of puroks," he said. (PIA XI/JMDA) [top]
