ASUNCION, Davao del Norte (31 January) -- "Serbisyo lang sa ta. (Let's serve.) Let's avoid hitting below the belt. Bawat isa sa atin may tungkulin sa kapwa. (Each of us has our own duty towards others.)
Municipal Mayor Leopoldo Monteroso of Asuncion shared this thought in an interview after delivering his last State of the Town Address (SOTA) which highlighted his accomplishment in his stint as a municipal mayor for three terms.
But even as he soon takes exit, he is not free from mudslings which he has brushed aside. "Dili ko matandog anang hitting below the belt. (I would not be moved with hitting below the belt.)
He cautioned local politicians against doing this strategy to gain edge over opponents, saying electorates in the municipality usually don't bite such but would rather look at performance and platform.
