by Prix D Banzon

Davao City (9 March) -- Key industry players engaged in information technology have brought to Davao the Microsoft training and certification that will make IT jobseekers have the edge over the others.

In a press briefing at The Marco Polo on Thursday, Jaime Garchitorena, general manager of Edupro said most of those wanting to get Microsoft training and certification from Davao have to fly to Manila which entail additional expense.

"Coming to Davao is part of their service to cater to people in the South because we believe in Davao and Mindanao are potential growth areas. Davao is ripe for investment and because of that we have to cut back margin of profit for a large degree," he said.

The formal launch in Davao City are spearheaded by Davao-base partner iThink Technologies, Inc. headed by managing director Jun Mercader, Edupro with Garchitorena, Microsoft officials Al Jaleed, Asia Pacific Sales Director for Learning Solutions, Boy Bawal, director for Southern Philippines and Mylene Castillo, partner manager.

Meanwhile Castillo assured that the Microsoft Official Curriculum is the latest and world class and that after the student gets the certification it is recognize worldwide and is affordable in Davao.

She also said that based on data gathered it was noted that companies look for Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs).

She said in the Philippines there are IT communities like the Independent Software Vendors who are looking for MCPs even as she said that they are trying to gather these MCPs who need jobs and perhaps match them with those software developers.

Garchitorena however said that placement of graduates is not part of their program however, certified graduates are preferred over the applicant with no certification.

"This is what is happening now and we need to help the sector for them to be place in the right field," he said.

He said they step in a "virgin territory" with the kind of service not yet done in Mindanao and in Davao.

"And we are here because we look forward to developing the IT population. We are here to develop a community of competent IT professionals," he said.

But he said it has to be done right and by doing it one must engage only in authorized training center.

The prospect examinee must undergo a Microsoft Certification Track. There are seven courses of separate modules and the number of days depends on the course that varies from two to five days. One can complete the whole track in 27 days or just choose the preferred module and once completed the skills is immediately usable. Among the courses are on application development, desk top system application, office work and others.

The certification that will be issued has the signature of Bill Gates of Microsoft and this could be a proof of ones expertise that is recognized worldwide. (PIA XI) [top]
