Taiwanese fishing boat rescued at high seas
Davao City (4 April) -- The Philippine Coast Guard based in Davao City had rescued last Saturday, March 31, 2007, a Taiwanese Fishing Boat named Sheng Fung #76 that developed engine trouble at the vicinity waters off Mati, Davao Oriental.
F/B Sheng Fung, a 55.71 gross tonnage vessel with (2) Taiwanese officers and Ten (10) Indonesian crew members on board was on her way from Davao Fishport Complex in Toril to the international fishing ground for their venture when they encountered engine trouble.
Mr. Efren Tompong, Manager of the Davao Tekhuat Marine Factory based at Davao Fishport Complex who received the distress call from the vessel immediately reported the incident to the Coast Guard District Operations Center.
Commodore Edmund C Tan, Commander of Coast Guard District in Southeastern Mindanao, immediately dispatched a Coast Guard vessel, the DF 307, to conduct search and rescue operations (SAR) in the area of incident.
DF-307 spotted and rescued F/B Sheng Fung in the waters 8 nautical miles off Malita Davao del Sur while fast drifting towards Balut Island.
