Samar DepEd to give recognition and honors to deserving schools

Catbalogan, Samar (April 18) -- Samar Department of Education is due to give recognition and honors to deserving schools, teachers and administrators for putting the Division of Samar in the map of education excellence.

In a Division Memorandum dated April 13, 2007, Samar DepEd Division Superintendent Alfredo Dacurro intends to gather all supervisors, coordinators, principals and the awardees to a get together he termed PASIDUNGOG 2007 which will be held on April 27, 2007 at the Redaja Hall, DepEd, Catbalogan, Samar.

The activity PASIDUNGOG 2007 will give honor and recognition to deserving DepEd personnel who showed exemplary performance in the school year 2006-2007.

To be awarded are the schools that scored 75% above MPS (Mean Percentage Score) in the National Achievement Test (NAT).

Some 25 districts will be awarded out of the 33 districts in Samar; for elementary Osmeña Elementary School in Hinabangan topped the five highest awardees followed by Mogdo E School also in Hinabangan, San Luis Elementary School in Pagsanghan District, Canticum E. school in Calbiga District and Candugue Elemenatry School in Daram 2 District.

As for the Secondary level, some 40 schools out of 58 scored 60% Above MPS (Fourth Year) with Hinabangan National High School on top followed by Clarencio Calagos Memorial School in Calbayog City, Eastern Visayas Science Regional High School, West Coast Agricultural School and Almagro National High School.

According to DepEd Information Officer Claire Menda, Samar ranked no.5 in the region with ten divisions.

Menda added that the different school-awardees contributed to making Region 8 on top of all regions in its placement in the National Achievement Test last school year 2006-2007.
