Davao City (24 April) -- Davao and the rest of Southern Mindanao are now enjoying added exposure during the recent international show held at SM City early this year at SM City Davao as more international tour operators come for an ocular and familiarization tour.
Department of Tourism (DOT XI) regional director Sonia Garcia in an interview after Kapehan sa Dabaw held at SM's McDo on Monday said a group of tour operators and media practitioners from Indonesia came in yesterday to and proceeded to South Cotabato to view the sites in Lake Sebu.
The group she said will also conduct ocular at the General Santos City fishport, the city being the tuna capital of the country.
Another group from Palau will be coming in within the week while a group also from China will arrive to inspect the different sites of Davao.
Garcia said their coming in to Davao are signs that these operators are interested in selling the destinations to their clients coming from different countries of the world.
"I think their clients are interested of knowing our sites and this is a positive sign especially so that international tour operators took time of checking the sites by joining familiarization tours," she said.
She said it is also a must for us to prepare the routes to make things happen.
The Gateway Project of DOT in coordination with the Air Transportation Office, Department of Transportation and Communication and private airline companies is also one project that could sustain public awareness of the varied tourism sites and services that Davao City and the region could offer.
