Davao City (8 May) -- Ulama League of the Philippines regional chairman Mahmoud Adilao said the Muslim communities have expressed support over President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's plan of creating mega regions, saying such strategy would promote convergence with every super region.
Chairman Adilao said the administration's super regions would be beneficial especially in Mindanao.
It could help us consolidate the gains of Mindanao, he added. Strengthening mega-regions would benefit Halal industries of the Muslim communities which is industry-clustering.
The biggest challenge now among our Muslim brothers is how to implement such approach and how to connect Mindanao's gains given the territorial boundaries.
The Muslim communities believe that the President, in pushing for these mega regions, would strengthen regional development councils to form a supra council for the whole of Mindanao.
The establishment of mega-regions in the Mindanao Island would also benefit Halal industries of the Muslim communities and said move would be more beneficial for our Muslim brothers, he said.
I believe that mega regions would be given full support to produce, promote and market champion products, including our Halal industries, and make sure that income generating opportunities will be open to our Muslim brothers, he added. (PIA) [top]
