Senatoriables bare plans for Mindanao
By Mai Gevera
Davao City (8 May) -- Targeting a bulk of the total Mindanao votes, senatoriables are beginning to lay down their plans for the "promise land".
Team Unity's Edgardo Angara is eyeing for a more strengthened agricultural sector which he believed is the biggest potential of Mindanao and its people. "When I was the agricultural secretary before, I have seen how Mindanao can develop with its abundance in agriculture alone."
Angara shares the same concern with his party-mate Prospero Pichay in the call to address the issue of peace. The latter believed that there must be a two-tiered approach in facing the problem. He said that it is not enough if the government would simply attack them head-on. Instead, it must go with civic actions that will make them feel the government's concern in service delivery.
On the other hand, Chavit Singson promised to fight for decentralization as he claimed it as what Mindanao truly lacks. "Sa desentralisasyon, maibibigay sa Mindanao kung ano ang dapat mapunta sa Mindanao."
Singson believed that his "boses ng probinsya" battlecry is his edge to get votes especially in Mindanao.
Independent candidate Manny Villar is seeing investment opportunities as what is needed in Mindanao. Along with agricultural development, he has seen the lack of businesses that open in the archipelago. He said that it is about time that Mindanao gets a focus on agriculture, education, and investments as its major growth areas.
Genuine Opposition's Francis Escudero, though popularly known son of Luzon, promised to bring forth employment growth, increase in salary and wage and better health services as what he feels are the major needs of Mindanaoans.
Angara, Pichay, Singson, Villar, and Escudero are among the 13 endorsed candidates of Davao's Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. (PIA XI) [top]
