100% of Region 8 public schools participate in Brigada Eskuwela
Tacloban City (May 29) -- One hundred percent of the 382 public secondary schools and the 3585 public elementary schools in Eastern Visayas participated in the annual Oplan Brigada Eskuwela which was conducted on May 21–26, 2007, Department of Education Region (DepEd) 8 Director Sol F. Matugas informed.
Right now, the various divisions are evaluating the different participating schools in order to know the extent of implementation, the relevance and the total cost of donations generated by the individual schools vis-à-vis their priority targets, Director Matugas added.
This she said is in preparation for the submission of the winning division entry to the Regional Office of the various categories for the Search for the Most Prepared School in observance of the Brigada Program and the Bayanihan Award. The winners in the Region will compete in the National Level.
Director Matugas said that the categories are small elementary school, big elementary school, school-at-large elementary, small secondary school, big secondary school and school-at-large secondary.
The criteria for the selection of the winning division entry include among others, the scope of repair and maintenance work completed 35%.
The second criterion is the donations and material resources generated which are relevant to the school needs, its adequacy to meet needs and the cost. This is given 15%.
The third is volunteer services which includes a large number of volunteers who participated, who were present all throughout the school week, coming from the different types of organization in the community and the observed spirit of cooperation among volunteers and the school staff. This criterion is given 30%.
Other factors which includes relevance to school needs, uniqueness and innovativeness, is assigned 10% while the overall impact of the Brigada Eskuwela on the physical improvement of the school is given 10%.
The Evaluation and Selection Committee for the Most Prepared Schools is composed of ARD Alberto Escobarte as Overall Chairman and Dr. Editha Jacer is the co-chairperson.
For Team A (Leyte Island), the evaluation and selection committee is composed of chairpersons Dr. Editha P. Jacer and Dr. Rogelia Firmo with members composed of Evelyn Labitag, Angeles Asis, Erlinda Buendia and Cresencia Catan.
For Team B (Samar Island and Biliran), the chairpersons are Dr. Brenda Estoy and Dr. Catalina Petilos while the members are Corazon Abella, Maria Getalado, Rhodora Sison, Crispin Miranda, Vilma Enciso, Alejandrito Yman and Ursula Rojas.
The Schools Division of Eastern Samar headed by Division Superintendent Niña Villalon, was presented a special award by the Department of Education for registering the biggest number of volunteer parents who participated in the week-long Brigada Eskuwela for the school year 2006-2007.
