PNP increases police visibility as schools open today
Tacloban City (June 4) -- The Police Regional Director for Region 8, Gen. Abner Cabalquinto, who was guest at Panindugan television program of PIA, informed that the members of the Philippine National Police will be deployed at the different schools today in order to ensure the safety of the students.
PNP Director Cabalquinto said that he has directed the PNP Provincial Directors in Region 8 to implement necessary and needed measures in connection with the peaceful, orderly and safe conduct of the opening of classes today.
He said that police visibility will be strengthened in order to deter the bad elements of society from inflicting harm to the students. The first day of classes is usually the most difficult school day especially with the parents who are bringing their children who are going to school for the first time in their life. This chaotic situation is usually taken advantaged of by scrupulous members of the society.
Police visibility is most important in the morning when the children enter the school premises and in the afternoon, when the school children leave the school for home.
The number of the Police force in the Region is only about more than 4,000, Gen. Cabalquinto intimated. There is not enough police manpower to be assigned in each of the schools in the Region, so the Provincial Directors will have the prerogative to assign a police in the densely populated schools.
He, however, assured that the police will have a roving tour of duty in all the schools in their respective locality to look into the safety of the students.
The main function of the Philippine National Police is to enforce all laws and ordinance relative to the protection of lives and properties and to maintain peace and order and take all necessary steps to ensure public safety, General Cabalquinto said. These function, he said, the PNP 8 is determined to fulfill. (PIA 8) [top]
