by Prix D Banzon

Davao City (20 June) -- Sutherland Global Services, the latest Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company to locate in Davao City has launched its training in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Monday at the Philippines-Korean Training Center in Tibungco, Davao City.

In an interview with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI XI) Davao City director Teololu Pasawa who also heads the secretariat of the ICT Cluster of the region said the BPO company for its counterpart will equip the training center with connectivity, the curriculum as well as resource speakers.

He said the Sutherland Global Services (SGS) took the scheme of conducting the training with its local partners for better training management as well as to save on cost.

Also he said TESDA has training component for call center requirements even as he said that such program is not only exclusive for SGS but to other BPO companies.

He said that other BPO companies that already opened their branches in Davao City had to bring their recruits to their branch offices in Manila or Subic.

Initially he said the number of trainees is about 150 but the training will be continuing.

The trainees he said will do actual contact servicing with clients around the globe.

The SGS is expected to undertake preparations for setting up of the call center between three to six months and it is considering the NCCC Mall in Matina as its location.

Although Pasawa did not give exact figure on the company’s investment, he said the industry estimate for BPO is between $10,000 to $15,000 per seat.

The SGS has a minimum seat requirement of 1,000, he said.

The company is a leading BPO with over twenty years of experience in the customer management space. It offers an end-to-end set of contact center and back office outsourcing services that clients can choose to implement in either an integrated or stand-alone manger.

Founded in 1986 the headcount of employees already marked 17,500 and is located in the United States, India, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom.

In the Philippines it has branches in Makati and Clark. (PIA XI) [top]
