PRO5 spearheads peace rally against terrorists' atrocities

Legazpi City (30 August) -- The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) spearheaded Monday's (August 27) peace rally here, denouncing the widespread senseless atrocities perpetrated by communist and Abu Sayyaf terrorists against government troopers, both active and retired, including barangay officials.

Led by Police Chief Sup't.Balligi Agnanayon B. Tira, more than 1,000 personnel from different units/offices of PRO5 joined the peace rally that started from the PRO5 to Peñaranda Park in Albay District here, where a simple program was held condemning the continuing culture or impunity in the form of killings, liquidations, extortion, sowing fear and intimidation by all evil forces trying to destroy the Bicolanos' democratic way of life.

Families, orphans and relatives of victims of killings joined the peace rally and narrated their grief over the loss of their loved ones in the unending terror being sown by the enemies of the people.

The rallyists carrying placards and streamers denouncing NPA's atrocities were joined by other peace-loving citizens, with one shared common desire, that is ending further loss of lives and to propel the economy so as to uplift the lives of the people particularly those in the countryside.

The Monday activity highlighted PRO5's celebration of the National Heroes Day with the theme: “Pagbibigay pugay sa mga bayaning Pilipino na nagbuwis ng kanilang buhay para sa kapayapaan ng ating Bayan'.

The activity was also replicated in the six provincial police offices of Bicol. (PRO5/PIA) [top]
