Crime prevention starts with the individual, priest says
Tacloban City (September 5) -- Crime Prevention starts in each and every individual, Reverend Father Harvey Davey Lajara of the Santo Nino Parish admonished the participants to the Launching Program of the Crime Prevention Week on Monday, September 3.
Fr. Lajara said that if each and every citizen will read, meditate and live the Bible, he or she will never go wrong and will not allow crime to be committed without reporting it to proper authorities.
Not preventing and not reporting a crime is also an offense in itself, Fr. Lajara who is known for his witty sermons, reminded the participants from the coordinating agencies such as Department of Interior and Local Government which is the chairman, the National Police Commission, the Parole and Probation Office, the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army, the Department of Education, the Philippine Information Agency and the participating non-government organizations.
As law enforcers and government workers, the eyes of the public are on the participants, Fr. Lajara said. It is therefore, a must that the same should give good example that the public for the public to emulate.
Fr. Lajara presided over the Mass which is the first activity in the Launching of the National Crime Prevention Week celebration in Region 8. The Opening program, with Honorable Alfred Romualdez of Tacloban City as the keynote speaker, followed.
After the program, a motorcade was conducted along the City's major thoroughfares to drum beat awareness on the importance of crime prevention in the Region and in the country as a whole. (PIA 8) [top]
