PIA Press Release

Crime solution and prevention tops agenda of police, justice agencies

By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (7 September) -- Col (Ret) Ramon Salvilla, peace and order consultant of the Office of the City Mayor said crime prevention tops in the agenda of the Davao International Airport as he noted that the peace and order council chaired by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte has been a consistent recipient of the most outstanding Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) award among highly urbanized cities.

Col. Salvilla said Mayor Duterte wants to maintain the good record and he is even striving to further reduce Davao City's low crime rate by instructing the city's law enforcers to increase crime solution efficiency.

Meanwhile, various government offices involved in the criminal justice system have vowed greater efficiency in solving and preventing occurrence of crime though this year's observance of the National Crime Prevention Weeks which runs September 1 to 7, 2007. This year's theme is: "Crime Prevention: A Global Concern."

Region XI Director Ma. Luisa Ofina of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) said crime prevention is a daily activity.

Philippine National Police (PNP) regional Police Chief Superintendent Andres Caro 111 said the police are focusing their efforts on crime prevention especially at the barangay level.

However, Caro pointed out that strengthening family values plays a major role in the entire gamut of preventing crimes.

On the other hand, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Police Senior Superintendent Jaime Morente called on all sectors not just those involved in the entire criminal justice system to join hands in preventing crimes and in maintaining peace and order.

Regional Executive Judge Renato Fuentes said that pursuit towards maintaining peace and preventing crime can be effective if it begins at the grassroots level.

While one of his main concerns is the speedy administration of justice, Judge Fuentes believes that efficient crime prevention measures would do well to declog his courts of cases especially at this time when they lack manpower. (PIA XI) [top]
