Tacloban City (September 12) -- In support to the city government's ongoing cleanliness campaign dubbed as Limpyo Tacloban, the Region Eight Administrators League is embarking on REAL Service: An Outreach Program aimed at helping beautify the City and creating awareness among local leaders and the public on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in their surroundings.

Land Transportation Office Regional Office 8 Director Raul Aguilos, who is the President of REAL, informed that the program launching will be conducted on September 15, which will serve as a kick off to series of planned activities which will be conducted in the adopted barangays.

Director Aguilos said that the September 15 activity which is in line and coincides with the observance of the World Clean Up Day, will be done in collaboration with the City Government of Tacloban, the local government units of Barangays 88, 89 and 90 in San Jose District, and the Nature's Unlimited- Leyte Outdoors Club.

Director Aguilos invites the members of REAL and their staff, civic and non-government organizations and the general public to participate in the September 15 REAL Clean Up Drive specifically in the cleaning the beachfronts at Barangays 88, 89 and 90.

The assembly, Director Aguilos said, will be at the Sahara Beach Resort, San Jose, where there will be an opening program, at 6:00 o'clock in the morning. At 7:00 o'clock, the trucks of NIA and DENR will transport the volunteer cleaners to the target barangays where they will start cleaning the beachfront working back towards Sahara Beach.

Three garbage collection areas will be made available at Payapay (VicMar), Yolanda's and Manibay, where the volunteers shall bring their garbage. There will also be marshals who will be distributing trash bags and standby firetrucks for washing of hands.

In addition, Director Aguilos said that the organizers are also soliciting from water refilling stations drinking water for the volunteers and other generous sponsors to voluntarily donate snacks.

Although, a big number of volunteers are expected from the student groups, Director Aguilos said he is depending on the REAL members to really get involved in the cleanliness, environment and tourism-oriented activity. (PIA 8) [top]
