Davao City (29 September) -- The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte is seeking the conversion of provincial roads into national roads by the Department of Public Works and Highways, particularly those arteries that connect the province to its neighbors like Compostela Valley and Bukidnon.
Governor Rodolfo del Rosario said that he is requesting the DPWH to convert the Asuncion to San Isidro road into a national road since it links the province to Barangay Pinamuno of the Municipality of Laak which belongs to the province of Compostela Valley.
In an interview with the members of the local media at the weekly Kapihan sa Kapitolyo held last Sept. 27 in the provincial capitol in Tagum City, Governor del Rosario said that even if he wants to improve the 30-kilometer dirt road into a concrete, all-weather road. The province has no sufficient funds to pursue the project, unless it is undertaken by the national Government which can only be done if the said infrastructure is declared a national road.
According to the Governor a national road can only be declared if the road connects the province to another province, take for instance the Talaingod-Bukidnon road which was declared a national road.
Governor del Rosarios bared that the concreting of the 80-kilometer stretch which links Talaingod town to the Municipality of San Fernando in Bukidnon has been started with a project cost of P2.1 billion which according to the Governor was approved by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo under her Mega-Regions plan.
