Tacloban marks Family Week with picnic at Balyuan Park

Tacloban City (September 30) -- The City Government of Tacloban City celebrated the National Family Week with a Picnic at Balyuan Park on September 28, 2007.

The activity is attuned to the nationwide celebration's theme, Makulay ang Buhay ng Pamilyang Matibay, Ms. Liliosa Baltazarm head of the Tacloban City Social Welfare and Development Office said.

Miss Baltazar informed that the activity catered to the poor families who seldom enjoy a simple yet significant moments together, as they are all busy working as they could hardly make both ends meet.

Graced by no less than Mayor Alfred Romualdez and his wife, councilor Cristina, the activity featured not only partaking of the food together, but also playing parlor games together as a family.

Mayor Alfred stressed the importance of the family enjoying a few moments of fun together because this will make the family more cohesive and happier and more ready to face life together, for better or for worse.

The mayor reiterated that the city Government of Tacloban will always be supportive of the family as the basic unit of society. The mayor said, he believes that if a community is to progress, every family in the community must first progress.

It was observed that since he assumed into office as the City Mayor of Tacloban, Mayor Alfred has been giving importance to the social services for the people of Tacloban.

Already, the City is remarkably cleaner and more orderly with the side walk vendors out of the city streets and with the Philippine National Police guiding the pedestrians to use the pedestrian lanes.

The Mayor has been leading saturation drives at night in order to gather the vagrant children from the streets and bringing them back to their respective families.

With his wife Cristina, livelihood trainings are ongoing so that the women night workers will be able to have alternative livelihood right there in their respective homes. (PIA 8) [top]
