Feature: Region 8 boasts many talented, artistic students
Tacloban City (October 1) -- There are many talented and artistic students in Region 8, the chairperson of the board of judges, Asst. Professor Gilda Ma. Paz Kamus commented during the 2nd Pintados Regional Inter School Cheer Dance Competition.
Ms. Kamus noted Cheer Dance Competition in Tacloban is at par with the cheer dance competitions in Metro Manila. She is amazed that the dancers could actually do the pyramids and somersaults and other techniques which are being considered in judging a cheer dance competition.
It is a pity if the talents of these young artists will not be developed, Ms. Kamus said lauding the Pintados Foundation for its initiative of training the choreographers on cheer dancing and coming up with the annual contest.
Miss Kamus also noted that the participants in the high school division were better than the college and elementary divisions. There were seven competing teams in the high school division, three in the elementary and three in the college divisions.
The board of judges decided to give three awards to the high school division, while only the champion was given a prize in the other two divisions.
Ms. Kamus pledged to continue supporting the Pintados Foundation in bringing Cheer Dancing in Region 8 to international standards.
Ms. Kamus is a former member of the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the department secretary of the UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics.
The other equally qualified members of the board of judges were Asst. Professor Edna B. Sanchez, the adviser of the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troup, Fr. Cipriano Rey A. Caraballa of the Quasi-Parish of Divine Lord and Savior, Hon. Cristina Romualdez and Ms. Rina Velasquez. (PIA 8) [top]
