2nd Pintados reg'l cheer dance competition draws overflowing crowd

Tacloban City (October 1) -- Thousands of participants and supporters from the thirteen competing schools from all over the Region, filled to full capacity the Tacloban City Convention Center, the venue of the 2nd Pintados Regional Inter School Cheer Dance Competition held on September 28.

The enthusiastic spectators who also brought with them props like balloons and drums, continuously cheered their teams especially when the winners in the three divisions were announced.

The defending champion in the elementary division, the Santo Nino SPED Center of Tacloban City successfully defended its crown, retaining to be the champion in its division. The jubilant cheer dancers went home with the cash prize of P20,000.00

For the college division, the Eastern Visayas State University cheer dancers emerged as champion in the division. It was also awarded the Best in Costume Award and went home with a cash prize of P22,000.00.

In the high school division, the Naval Institute of Technology ran away with the championship prize of P30,000.00. As the judges commented, the NIT cheer dancers' facial expressions when they performed showed that they were already champions.

The second place was won by the Julita National High School cheer dancers who had the full support of their Mayor Irvin Dy who was present during the competition.

Third place went to the Leyte National High School all-male cheer dance team.

The winners received their prizes from Hon. Cristina Romualdez and Tanauan Mayor Roque Tiu who is the founding president of the Pintados Foundation.

The certificates of Appreciation to all the participating teams were presented by PIA Director Olive Tiu and Mrs. Evelina Acebedo, the foundation secretary. (PIA 8) [top]
