DepEd joins Nat'l Children's Month celebration in October
Tacloban City (October 2) -- The Department of Education (DepEd) joins the Council for the Welfare of Children in celebrating the 15th year of National Children's Month celebration this October with the theme: "Bright Child, Karapatan Nasa 'Yo, Isigaw sa Buong Mundo."
The month of October of every year has been declared as National Children's Month per Proclamation No. 267.
The month-long celebration aims to give recognition to the role of a nurturing family and a community in producing a bright child.
Through DepEd Memorandum 351 Series of 2007, Undersecretary Teodosio Sangil Jr., officer in charge said that all heads of bureaus, the regional and division offices are encouraged to join in the month-long celebration by undertaking child-related activities.
Among the suggested activities is the organization of child-friendly activities for the general public such as art contest, children's fair, photo exhibit, film showing, camping, etc.
Another activity is the conduct of seminar workshops, fora. Moreso, one important activity is to bring mobile services like medical, dental, library, to areas where children congregate on the streets, urban temporary shelter areas and rural areas.
The celebration of the National Children's Month celebration is in recognition of the Filipino children as the most valuable asset of the nation.
The only way these children will become assets of the nation is by providing them the care and love of a nurturing family and community. (PIA 8) [top]
