Davao City (2 October) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will lead today's nationwide opening in the observance of Linggo ng Katandaang Pilipino with the theme Nakatatanda: Tanglaw ng Kabataan at Lipunan.
This year's theme illustrates the significant role of our older persons as models of the young generation as well as serving as guiding posts of society, being the repository of Filipino values and traditions.
The older persons in the midst are the grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, neighbors, co-workers, godparents, spiritual leaders, teachers, counselors and friends who are 60 years old and over. They provide the necessary guidance and direction to every life they touch.
This annual observance advocates to every Filipino to value and honor the senior citizens by showing genuine love, care and respect for them not only during this time but throughout their lifetime.
Activities lined up for the week include Photo Exhibits, Senior Citizens Information and Services Booth, Live Band Rendition of 50's and 60's Music and the Senior Citizen's Talent Show, all set at SM City Entertainment Plaza.
Radio stations DXRP Radyo ng Bayan and DXRD Sonshine Radio shall also feature the Expanded Senior Citizens' Act along with the Programs and Services for the Elderly of other national government and local government offices.
Other events organized nationwide are Radio and Television Features, Walk for Life, Visit to Home for the Aged, Reading of the Elderly Filipino Week Message, Visit to the Visitorless, Indigent, Sick Older Persons [VISO], among others. (DSWD) [top]
