Feature: Regatta '07, a huge success
Zamboanga City (October 8) -- Warm weather, good turn out of participants and well laid plan resulted to elation and pride over the huge success of Regatta '07.
Vintas and bancas of various sizes, shapes and color lined up the R.T. Lim boulevard shoreline yesterday for the spectacular Regatta de Zamboanga, a major event in this year's Fiesta Hermosa revelry.
Five boat operators stood out among the 115 total participants in the sailboat race, an activity that is synonymous to Zamboanga, Asia's Latin City. Thousands of people including out-of-town visitors and foreigners flocked the famed R.T. Lim boulevard yesterday morning to witness the event.
Alkama Daris and Ugis Kalim of Manalipa Island won first place and went home with P10, 000; Sanny Alallim and Buluan Iraham of Tictabon Island ranked second with P7, 000 cash prize while Danny Ladja and Hadjad Hamie of Sinunuc placed third with a cash prize of P5, 000. Non-winners received P1,000 consolation prize each.
Mayor Celso Lobregat expressed elation and pride over the good turn out of participants and spectators as well as the warm weather and well laid plan that contributed to the success of the event.
The Regatta, he said, is one opportunity where Zamboanguenos share their hospitality and culture with people from other cities, provinces and other parts of the world.
The Regatta 2007 was organized by the City Tourism Division under the Office of the Mayor in coordination with the Coast Guard-Zamboanga del Sur; 9th Maritime Office, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)-9, Philippine Tourism Authority, Zamboanga City Police Office, Philippine National Red Cross and REACT Chabacano Group.
