Davao is beautiful, has great potentials – Chinese envoy
Davao City (9 October) -- "Davao City is beautiful, it has great investment potential apart from being a typhoon-free city, the city is clean with fresh air, Dabawenyos has the blessings from the Gods," thus was the statement of Chinese Ambassador Dr. Hsin-hsing Wu, during his official visit in Davao City Saturday (Oct 6) as the Mindanao-Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Root International Peace Corp held its first medical mission at Barangay Buhangin proper, Davao City.
As an official Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Taiwan, Republic of China, Ambasador Hsin-hsing Wu was welcomed by Acting Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and Buhangin Barangay captain Claudia Salvador.
Also in the welcoming party were Jimmy Go of Kiwanis International including other officials of Davao City like former City Councilor Nenen Orcullo; NNC regional head Ma. Terry Ungson; City Nutrition chief of CHO, Venus Millana; Overseas Affairs Commission, R.O.C. Davao Fil-Chinese Cultural Foundation president & executive director Benito Mesina; Ching Tan and Santiago Tan of Firefighters foundation; and Boy Rallos of Kiwanis club.
In an exclusive interview with the Philippine Information Agency and media man Gil Abarico, Ambassador Wu disclosed that a closer bilateral ties has been agreed between the Philippines and the Republic of China and we could work together with Dabawenyos in order to develop your (Davao's) economy, uplift people's lives and wellbeing in the future.
He said that during the visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Shanghai China (Oct 2), President Arroyo invited Chinese business sector to be partners with Philippine businessmen as your country (Philippines) has been aggressive in seeking multilateral and bilateral trade relationships in order to compete for the globalization.
On our part, Ambassador Wu told Davao mediamen that "we are expecting to open up new avenues of trade and investment opportunities as our counterparts and members of Mindanao Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry through Walter Liu and the Davao Fil-Chinese businessmen have already expanded their businesses in the City."
On the same occasion, Acting Mayor Sara Duterte said that Davao City welcomes medical mission activities as these ultimately benefits city residents. The city is very grateful of the medical mission which we hope would continue in the future, Sara Duterte said.
"When we had a talk with Ambassador Wu, they have plans of putting up a Computer Center in Davao and if this will push through, this will benefit our Davao residents especially the youth sector," the Vice-Mayor added.
In the evening, the Chinese community celebrated the Republic of China's 96th National Day celebration at Grand Men Seng hotel where various Chinese modern and tribe dances, Early birds and consolation prizes, raffles, and song contests were held in coordination with the Davao Christian High School; Phil Academy of Sakya; Shiaolin Kung Fu; Colegio de San Ignacio; Stella Maris Academy; Dynamic Youth, Inc., Davao chapter; Chiang Kai Shek College Southen Mindanao Alumni Association; Davao Fil-Chinese Cultural Association; Mindanao-Tawain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.; and other Chinese organization.
