PIA Press Release

DepEd employees with eCard increase - GSIS

Manila (14 October) -- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Sunday said that the personnel from the Department of Education who have enrolled to the eCard Plus are the highest in number after accounting for 13.5 percent of the total eCard Plus holders among DepEd employees.

The employees of the Deped, coming from offices in Pasay, Pasig, Manila, Cavite, Caloocan, Antipolo, and Bulacan were the highest number.

Based on the GSIS data, a total of 69,418 DepEd personnel in the home office have enrolled to the eCard Plus, out of the total of 514,176 employees, consisting mostly of public school teachers, that have eCard Plus.

The GSIS field office in Iloilo has the next highest number of eCard Plus enrollees with 22,682 DepEd personnel already owning an eCard Plus.

Rounding up the top five GSIS field offices with the most number of eCard Plus enrollees among DepEd personnel are Dagupan (19,499 enrollees), Batangas (19,412), and Cebu (19,194).

To date, around 97 percent of the total 531,098 DepEd employees all over the country have already enrolled to the eCard Plus.

Almost all DepEd employees have applied for the eCard Plus just 10 months after it was implemented for national rollout last January.

The eCard Plus is the official GSIS membership card of all its members and pensioners.

Apart from being an ID, the GSIS eCard Plus also serves as an identification system for the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System, or G-W@PS.

Once the G-W@PS kiosk identifies the member through the eCard and his fingerprints, the machine allows the member to check his payment records. Members, more notably, can apply for a loan using the G-W@PS kiosk.

Proceeds of the loan the member applied through the kiosk can be withdrawn from any of the 6,000 ATMs and selected M. Lhuillier branches in areas where there are no easy access to ATMs" all using the eCard Plus.

Members and pensioners can use the eCard for their personal banking needs because the eCard provides them with an automatic Union Bank ATM savings account that comes complete with online banking and VISA debit features.

The eCard also serves as a hospitalization discount card, where members and pensioners are provided of up to 50 percent discount on their bills from some of the biggest hospitals in the country. (PNA) [top]
