Career Gateways jobs fair to hit Davao, Gensan

by Prix D Banzon

Davao City (16 October) -- Career Gateways 2007, the biggest jobs fair initiated by JIB e-Academy will be held in Davao City on October 17, 2007 at SM City Davao Entertainment Plaza and in General Santos City on October 19 at the KCC Convention Hall.

Joji Iligan Bian, president of JIB e-Academy in a press briefing on Monday at SM City's Café Rysus said that nine major call centers will spearhead the fair to fill in their respective manpower requirements.

Bian said among those participating are Six-Eleven Global Services, E-Telecare, Sykes, Viventis, e-PLDT Ventus, Teleperformance, Advanced Contact Solutions and Callbox.

She said these events are important especially for Davao because getting good human resources locally would encourage call centers to locate here instead of just hiring manpower and bring their recruits to either Cebu or Manila.

Bian also said that the event will not just be hiring of call center operators. It will also offer training through the "Learning Tracks" where an in-service lectures will be facilitated by resource speakers from call centers in Cebu and Manila.

She said the resource persons among others will also discuss business opportunities in the call center industry.

Learning Tracks will feature different lectures or topics to educate and enlighten the public as to the true nature of the industry as well as break the stereotyped misconception that call center agents are nothing more than glorified telephone receptionists

As a call center agent, one is exposed to services offered by the company on customer management, direct sales and marketing, training development and delivery, loan processing, eCommerce.

Bian said they are targeting 2,000 recruits in Davao City and another 1,000 in General Santos City and she projects an absorption rate of 40 percent from their recruit. (PIA) [top]
