Technology business incubator for ICT-based SMEs formally launched October 17

Tacloban City (October 17) -- Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla will lead the launching today, of the Technology Business Incubator for ICT-Based SMEs, a very important milestone in the attainment of the goal of Region 8 to become an ICT hub in the near future.

Based at the Leyte Information and Communication Technology (ICOT) Park, Leyte Academic Center at Pawing, Palo, Leyte, the endeavor is seen to truly pave the way towards creation of successful IT business enterprises not only in the province of Leyte but in the whole of Region 8.

The project is a joint undertaking between the Province of Leyte and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 8.

The Technology Business Incubator for ICT-based SMEs has been conceptualized to create a center that will assist starting entrepreneurs in the field of Information Technology in Region 8 through the establishment of space and equipment facilities, business development and technical services.

This is like mentoring a new ICT investor with limited skills and capitalization until he is fully hatched to be able to be on his own. Indeed, this is a big boost to investors who still lack the necessary tools and skills in order to succeed in the ICT industry.

The launching of the Technology Business Incubator will be made more significant because during the launching, about four locators who will initially start operations at the TBI.

The launching ceremony will start with the ribbon cutting by Hon. Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla to be assisted by Former Congresswoman Hon. Remedios L. Petilla, DOST Director Edgardo Esperancilla, DTI Director Cynthia Nierras and Mr. Orlando Uy, president of the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This will be followed by the viewing of the Technology Business Incubator Offices and Service Center and the partaking of the cocktails.

In the launching program, Former Congresswoman Remedios L. Petilla will do the welcome remarks while DOST Director Edgardo Esperancilla will give an overview on the Technology Business Incubator for ICT Project. (PIA 8) [top]
