Former Lerias administrator assumes as new Nat'l Maritime Polytechnic director

Tacloban City (October 17) -- Mr. Genis S. Murallos, former Southern Leyte Provincial Administrator during the incumbency of former Governor Rosette Lerias will assume a new post today as the executive director of the National Maritime Polytechnic.

The Turn over Ceremonies will be conducted at 9:00 o'clock in the morning of October 17, at Rm. 109, Maritime Training Building, NPMC Complex at Cabalawan, Tacloban City.

Department of Labor and Employment Director Forter Pugoon who was designated as officer in charge after former director Dalisay Sevilla retired, will deliver a message and formally turn-over the symbolic key and flag.

Former Director Dalisay Sevilla, it was noted used to be the provincial administrator of the Province of Leyte during the incumbency of former governor Remedios L. Petilla.

After the acceptance speech of the new executive director, Hon. Arturo D. Brion, Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment, will deliver words of challenge.

Mr. Murallos is not new to the National Maritime Polytechnic as it was learned that he was once with the Polytechnic for seven years before he joined the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte.

Twenty-two years since its creation, the National Maritime Polytechnic is still the premier maritime upgrading training centre in the country. In 1999, a total of 9923 training certificates were issued in various levels of courses to seafarers, both officers and ratings. Despite the presence of private training centres, NMP dominates the field with 30 modular course offerings, 10 of which are simulator-based, while the rest use actual equipment. (PIA 8) [top]
