Bureau of Local Gov't Finance welcomes new chief

Tacloban City (October 22) -- The Bureau of Local Government Finance under the Department of Finance in Region 8 has a new officer in charge in the person of Director George T. Roma.

This was announced by Assistant Regional Director Teresita S. Atuel who informed that the new posting is pursuant to BLGF Special Personnel Order No. 063-2007 dated September 6, 2007.

Director George T. Roma replaced Renee T. Empaces effective September 17, 2007.

Director George T. Roma who is a lawyer, was once chief of the Intelligence Division of the Bureau of Local Government Finance.

The Bureau of Local Government Finance is God-centered and service-oriented agency that links the national and local governments. It is a change agent in the field of local government finance, providing guidance and assistance to LGUs, the public and private sectors, through responsive local fiscal policies, transforming LGUs into self-reliant and financially viable communities.

It is vigilant and dedicated to the continuous discipline, development and professionalization of the Bureau and the local treasury and assessment services.

The BLGF is mandated under Section 43 of Executive Order No. 127, as amended, PD 1914, other pertinent provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991 and other related laws, to assist in the formulation and implementation of policies on local government revenue administration and fund management.

It also assist LGUs in the development and implementation of Real Property Tax Administration (RPTA) projects and develop plans and programs for the improvement of tax collection enforcement mechanism and credit utilization schemes at the local levels.

The Bureau exercises administrative and/or technical supervision over local treasury and assessment operations; exercise line supervision over its regional offices and coordinate regional activities to maximize manpower and financial resources; and perform such other appropriate functions as maybe assigned by the Secretary or Undersecretary of Finance.
