By Jocelyn P. Alvarez

Zamboanga City (October 22) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 9 is inviting the public to the launching of its "Sing For Me: a Call for Peace and Unity" project on October 30 at the Astoria Regency at Pasonanca, at 4:00 pm.

The "Sing For Me" project is a simultaneous community singing of Christmas carols for the benefit of disadvantaged children. Specifically, the project aims to promote peace and unity through music/singing to deliver cohesive effort for the children and generate resources and converge support among government, the private sector and the citizenry for disadvantaged children and mobilize the people to participate in the community singing.

The "Sing For Me" project will feature choral groups of the various LGUs, national government agencies, corporations, church groups and non-government organizations.

The "Sing For Me" project is a nationwide, simultaneous activity. Its National launching was held at the Quezon City Hall Plaza on September 22 with scheduled bi-monthly mini concerts region-wide.

For Zamboanga City, the first bi-monthly mini concert will be held this coming Oct. 30 with the participation of choral groups from national gov't agencies like the Bureau of Fire, BIR, DOH, PNP and the DSWD. The bi-monthly Christmas serenade will go on until Dec. 01.

The grand concert will be held at the Quirino Grandstand on December 9 at 10:00 pm with the simultaneous regional concerts all over the Philippine and telecast live over GMA TV 7.

Proceeds of the projects will be used for the construction of Bahay Pag-asa, a community type center facility or transition home for children in conflict with the law (CICL) and other youth at risk like the out-of-school youth (OSY). (PIA ZC) [top]
