IBM commits to support IT education, Mindanao ICT

Davao City (25 October) -- IBM Philippines committed to support the ICT concern on education as well as the open source initiatives.
IBM President and Country General Manager James Velasquez who joined the 6th MICT Congress and 1st BIMP-EAGA ICT Congress delivered his talk under the "Knowledge Innovation" track and spoke about ICT concern on the country's education and the open source initiatives being undertaken.
In a press conference at the Marco Polo Hotel on Wednesday, Velasquez also saw the bright prospects of ICT in Mindanao.
"The IT industry is thriving in Davao and in Mindanao," he said.
He also said the MICT Congress is very relevant as they saw IBM's role that has been advocating innovation for some time.
"We have found out that the basic types of innovation – particularly Enterprise Innovation have not changed dramatically in recent times," he said.
He said the primary forms that innovation takes within the enterprise are Products and Offerings innovation, Business Process innovation, Business Model innovation and Societal innovation and innovation is paramount to the emerging Globally Integrated Enterprise.
Velasquez believes that Mindanao plays a major role in the transformation even as he said that IBM is excited about the island.
He said they are committed to support their domestic clients and their services on hardware, software and solutions will also be accessed equally and they have eight partners that serve their clients in the whole of Mindanao.
As far as the entry of big companies to Mindanao he said it is proof that the market is there.
In Mindanao he said IBM has been doing good with a significant growth of over 20 percent. (PIA XI) [top]
