NEDA introduces sustainable development handbook
by E Isidro
Davao City (27 October) -- The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the country's highest policy-making body, recently introduced the Handbook for Mainstreaming Sustainable Development (SD) in Public Sector Decision-Making to local government planners, regional agency planners, and heads of non-government organizations in the region engaged in the promotion of sustainable development.
Formulated by NEDA in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the handbook is expected to enhance the understanding and capability of policymakers and planners in mainstreaming sustainable development (SD) in public sector decision-making, specifically in planning, programming, and budgeting.
Dir. Nicasio Angelo J. Agustin, Regional Director of NEDA XI, stated that the handbook is a welcome addition to the planning tools and references we have and is hopeful that the SD handbook will serve as guide for our development partners to lead them in their pursuit for a more sustainable development of the Davao Region.
The Agriculture Staff of NEDA Central Office presented the salient points of the handbook at the Mindanao Training and Resource Center on October 24, 2007. Similar advocacy activities on the handbook are being done in other regions of the country. (NEDA/PIA XI) [top]
