LAGAWE, Ifugao (29 October) -- In an effort to assist poor school children, the Rotary Club (RC) here donated school bags and supplies to pupils of Pullaan Elementary School (PES).
Dubbed 'Handog Mag-aaral 2007", the organization led by its President, lawyer Romeo Habbiling donated P25,000 worth of school bags and supplies to the 93 school children of PES. The group also donated books as the school does not have enough books for the kids to use.
Pullaan is one of the remotest, inaccessible and most impoverished barangays here. It takes three hours hike to reach the area.
Housed in a one – storey building with two classrooms serving Grades 1 – 6, the PES is a multi-grade elementary school with one classroom being occupied by Grades 1 – 3 and the other is for combined Grades 4 – 6.
With only eight chairs in each of the classrooms, Rotarian Joyce Wangiwang said the rest of the pupils sit down on the floor during classes. She also informed that there are only three teachers for the school, one serving as the head teacher.
Organized in September 2006, the RC Lagawe District has been active in many projects such as tree planting, lectures on Responsible Parenthood (RH) and career planning at the Don Bosco High School here. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
