BANAUE, Ifugao (29 October) -- The provincial government in cooperation with the Banaue Hotel is sponsoring a fund raising concert for the environment and tourism drive here.
Believing that the environment works hand in hand with tourism to boost economy, the activity is also envisioned to put the municipality and the Banaue Hotel in the entertainment map of the North.
Dubbed as 'Go Country in Banaue', which culminated October 27, the event started with a massive information drive in the different colleges and universities, local government units (LGUs), agencies and establishments in the North Eastern Area on the conduct of weekly folk and country band audition.
Chaired by Governor Teddy Baguilat Jr., the contest with participants aged 25-49 years old, will help discover, develop and promote local talents in the entertainment industry and to generate sufficient funds for the clean and green drive, and possibly for the establishment of a Banaue eco-park.
According to Board Member Joseph Odan, Co-Chairperson of the activity, those who qualify in the audition are featured in a weekly competition cum-concert every Saturday at 8 PM which started last September 22 up to October 20.
Winners of the weekly search will be featured as front acts for the more established professional country band singers for the culminating activity. Tickets are sold at P3,000 for sponsors and P1,500 for patrons.
The prizes for the winners are P10,000 plus 6 months singing contract with the Banaue Hotel for the grand champion. The second prize is P7,000 and the third is P5,000.
Organizers are aiming to institutionalize said event as yearly entertainment tourism activity of the province. This will be covered by a tri-partite memorandum of agreement between the proponents, Governor Teddy, Banaue Hotel and the major sponsor which is San Miguel Corporation. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
