BIR Eastern Visayas surpasses third quarter goal

Tacloban City (November 1) -- BIR Eastern Visayas under the able stewardship of its Regional Director, Atty. Estrella V. Martinez, surpassed its P172.879 million collection target for September 2007, garnering a total collection of P220, 968, 630.06, thereby registering a surplus of P48,089,630.06 which is equivalent to 27.82 percent.

This feat of the BIR Eastern Visayas contradicted the negative forecast of impending tax collection doom and amidst nationwide projections of revenue shortfall until the end of this year.

Ms. Paulina Buitizon, Revenue Officer I, informed that the Revenue Region has also pooled a remarkable P2,585,524,087.69 tax collections from January to September 2007 which exceeded the P2,328,226,000.00 goal for the same nine-month period by 8.90 percent, which is equivalent to P207,298,087.69.

With humility, Director Martinez and the regional revenue officials give credit and share the accolades to all the Eastern Visayas taxpayers, whose unwavering support and cooperation through correct and timely payment of taxes.

These actions of the taxpayers have enable Regional Revenue-14 to consistently hit the highest marks in collection performance, compared to other revenue regions since 2002 up to the present, in terms of percentage increase and assigned goals.

Director Martinez also commended the Revenue Region-14 staff and frontline personnel who has collectively manifested tremendous commitment and resiliency as shown by their impressive collection efforts which also overshot the 2006 collections by 21.98 percent.

Director Martinez urged the staff to sustain their enthusiasm and commitment so that the Bureau of Internal Revenue will be able to meet its goal and contribute to the attainment of a balanced budget in 2008.

She also called on the taxpayers in Eastern Visayas to continue their unwavering cooperation and support by paying their taxes correctly and on time. (PIA 8) [top]
