DPWH reports on damages to major roads and bridges caused by Nov 11-13 heavy rains
Tacloban City (15 November) -- OIC District Engineer Pacita C. Gavan of the Eastern Samar Engineering District informed that the heavy rains which occurred from November 11-13 caused some damages on the major roads and bridges in her area of jurisdiction.
The report which was prepared by Engineer Domcelio Natividad who is the chief of the Maintenance Section, showed that the San Julian-Borongan Road particularly Km 924+ 721 suffered damaged slope protection particularly at Bugas Bridge Approach.
The Maintenance Team of the Engineering District acted by installing warning signs. Although the damage costs at least half a million pesos, the road is passable to all types of vehicles, District Engineer Gavan informed.
Another damage was at the junction of Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut Road particularly at Km 995+400 where landslide occurred at around 10:30 in the evening of November 13, 2007 particularly at Barangay Sto. Nino. Quinapondan, Eastern Samar.
The landslide caused the National Road to be totally closed to traffic. The Maintenance Crew of the Engineering District immediately installed warning signs and conducted emergency removal of debris.
Engineer Gavan reported that a detour route taking Wright-Taft-Borongan Road, was set up for vehicles bound for Eastern Samar. The damage was estimated at P850,000.
As of 10:00 o'clock in the morning of November 14, half lane of the road affected by landslide is already passable for motorists, per information given by the Officer in Charge at the DPWH Regional Office Engineer Nestor Pagasartonga.
DPWH assured the motorists, travellers and the general public that it will continue to do its best to provide them with best service. (PIA 8) [top]
