Davao City (16 November) -- Following the footsteps of Governor Rodolfo del Rosario of the neighboring province of Davao del Norte. Compostela Valley Governor Arturo T. Uy is creating an anti-illegal logging Task Force to check illegal logging activities in the province.
Speaking before members of the media during the monthly Kapihan sa Comval press forum held at the Provincial Capitol in Nabunturan. Governor Uy said he will convene the Task Force by next week.
"Once ma-activate na ang ang Task Force then we will go after these illegal loggers." The Governor said.
The Governor said that last week he talked to Davao Oriental Governor Cora Malanyaon and broached to her his proposal of having the three provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley working side-by-side to combat illegal logging.
"I think the three provinces need to coordinate." Governor Uy said. Davao del Norte Governor del Rosario recently created an inter-agency, multi-sectoral task force which has been active in intercepting illegally cut logs.
Governor Uy also complained that illegal loggers does not just destroy the forests and the watersheds but also destroy roads because of their heavy trucks. The Governor recently launched its Lusong program to rehabilitate and improve farm-to-market roads. (PIA) [top]
