Davao City (16 November) -- Governor Arturo T. Uy of Compostela Valley Province said he will augment the military's counterinsurgency operations particularly in its conduct of combat patrol by providing them logistical support in terms of food and other basic necessities.
During the monthly Kapihan sa Comval held in the Provincial Capitol in Nabunturan the Governor pledged to support the counterinsurgency operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) specifically in providing assistance like food during the patrol.
"Three to four days lang ang ronda di kaya ma-sustain (the military can only sustain 3-4 days of patrolling), Uy said. the Governor said the assistance will come from the province's peace and order fund, and is necessary since the province is home to about seven New People's Army Fronts.
He said that 1001st Infantry Brigade Commander Army Col. Bienvenido Datuin presented to him the problem of the army's limited budget. Governor Uy said that basic assistance like rice and food will be given depending upon the request of the military.
Aside from food the Province is also providing assistance in building military facilities like the construction of an ammunition shelter worth fifty-thousand pesos.
However Governor Uy said that continued combat operations cannot destroy the insurgency alone but a concerted effort to alleviate poverty. The Governor said that poverty is the number one factor why insurgency is a festering problem in the province. (PIA) [top]
