RDC-8 updates social component of regional dev't plan

Tacloban City (19 November) -- The updating of the Regional Development Plan 2004-2010 will be the main business that will be tackled by the members of the Social Development Committee of the Regional Development Council during the meeting scheduled on November 19, 2007 at the Hotel Alejandro, Tacloban City.

The assessment report on the Regional Development Plan will be discussed, for information and discussion, by the Secretariat during the meeting which will start at 10:00 o'clock in the morning and is expected to be finished at 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon.

Further, the body will also tackle the challenges, strategies and targets for the 2008-2010 Regional Development Plan which is the roadmap for the development and streamlining of Eastern Visayas into the Central Philippines Super Region concept envisioning the Central Philippines as the Tourism Center of the country.

It was pointed out that the current Regional Development Plan covers the period 2004-2010. Overall assessment of the Plan Implementation is conducted at the midpoint of its implementation considering the fact that recent trends have taken place and new policy directions which affect both national and regional economies, have been issued between 2004-2007. Thus, the need to update the Regional Development Plan.

Besides, President Arroyo has directed NEDA to coordinate the updating of the Medium Term Public Investment and Development Plan and Regional Development Plans taking into consideration the 10-point agenda, the 8 priorities of the administration known as 8 in '08 and the priority commitments in the MDG.

The body will also discuss therefore, the progress report on the Millennium Development Goals which will be presented by the head of the National Statistical Coordination Board, Ms. Evangeline Paran.

Other social issues like the state of the children report and the basic education sector reform agenda will be discussed by the Secretariat and Department of Education Regional Director Sol Matugas, respectively.

Director Letecia T. Corillo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 8 will discuss and request for the endorsement of the endorsement of the proposed enhancement program for Day Care Workers.

In connection with the government's thrust of providing the best education for the Filipino youth, Naval Institute of Technology President Edita S. Genson will discuss the endorsement request of NIT for its conversion into a State University.

The Secretariat will also discuss the Joint Memo Circular on Harmonizing Planning, Investment, Programming, Budgeting, Revenue Administration and Expenditure Management. (PIA 8) [top]
