Davao City (4 December) -- Commission on Human Rights (CHR) XI regional director Alberto Sipaco Jr said every December 4-10 of the year is being celebrated as international Human Rights Week.
A recitation of Panata sa Karapatang Pantao was held yesterday during the flag raising ceremony at Davao City hall aimed at creating awareness among the people on human rights celebration.
Celebrating this year's theme "Karapatang Pantao: Ating Pananagutan Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Katarungan", all government agencies including government-owned and controlled corporations are enjoined to celebrate the weeklong "National Human Rights Consciousness week" and give more meaning to every individual's rights.
Government agencies are requested to hang their respective streamers in their offices and public places and make the people aware of their basic human rights in relation to the functions and services offered by government instrumentalities, Director Sipaco said.
The "National Human Rights Consciousness" week celebration is embodied under Republic Act 9201. Section 4 of the law which states that "all levels of education and learning institutions, both public and private, shall celebrate the week through simple and appropriate ceremonies and activities to propagate, particularly among the students, a human rights culture that aims to sustainable development in the country."
"Every Filipino should support our individual human rights, our common concern on respecting, protecting and fulfilling the human dignity and rights of every Filipino", he said. (PIA XI) [top]
