Construction of farm-to-market roads serves farmers in depressed barangays

Davao City (8 December) -- Secretary Hermogenes Ebdahe Jr. of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ordered highways personnel to be more consistent in providing support to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's 10-point agenda especially in the modernization program of agriculture which is one of the backbone of the country's economy likewise the full implementation of the Administration's poverty alleviation and job generation programs.
In Davao region, DPWH XI Director Jerome dela Rosa said various infrastructure projects of farm-to-market roads and other public works facilities are being undertaken to serve farmers in the rural areas and depressed barangays.
Among those completed projects last year on farm-to-market roads reported some 439 road construction and other agriculture support projects which improved the living conditions of the rural populace.
Completed projects on farm-to-market roads were funded under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform program (CARP).
Under the CARP funded projects, 92 more farm-to-market road projects in various parts of the country amounting to some P67-million are expected to benefit farmers in the rural areas.
The improvement of farm-to-market road services is one of the measurable accomplishments of the DPWH in support of the agriculture modernization program of the President.
The farm-to-market roads will connect barangays and accelerate the efficient implementation of development projects, including those funded by foreign loans.
The President is taking concrete steps to ensure the acceleration and efficient implementation of development projects, construction of canal lining, and installation of reinforced concrete pile culverts.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is committed to raise funds to implement development projects urgently needed to improve the lives of the Filipino people as she continues to build more bridges and infrastructure facilities.
Infrastructure projects are vital links for the facilitation of trade, commerce, communication and catalyzing investments in the countrysides.
The President has tasked the DPWH to effectively and efficiently implement infrastructure projects which prioritizes bridges and opening of farm-to-market roads critical for development, Director dela Rosa said. (PIA XI) [top]
