Davao City (2 February) -- Schools across the nation are now undertaking intensified drive on the danger of dengue fever disease to prevent the spread of such disease.
In Davao Region, Department of Education (DepEd) XI Director Susana Estigoy said a thorough campaign against dengue disease is part of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus' order to intensify dengue campaign throughout the country to protect the schoolchildren.
We already have established measures for the awareness, prevention and control of dengue fever disease in every schools, Director Estigoy said as she called on the cooperation of the parent-teachers association and health centers for the prevention of such disease which still remains fatal, if not controlled and prevented especially among the kids who are vulnerable of dengue.
The education department is sustaining an environmental cleanup in every school to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites.
The best way is to get rid of the breeding areas of mosquitoes by cleaning our surroundings, she said.
The government is not recommending fumigation not unless there is an epidemic of such disease. In outbreak areas, fumigation for one or two weeks is recommended but this must still be accompanied by massive cleanup operations. (PIA) [top]
