PIA Press Release

Davao Norte to host Local Peace Security Assembly

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (2 February) -- Provincial director of the Provincial Interior and Local Government Gregorio Versoza announced the Davao del Norte's preparedness to host the Local Peace Security Assembly 9LPSA) set on February 7-8 at the Bulwagan Hall, Tagum City.

"We are expecting about 300 participants from the different provinces in the Davao Region, mostly local chief executives, to meet and discuss peace and security concerns," he said.

Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario initiated the immediate face-lift of the old DILG Building, now converted into a Bulwagan Hall, which is huge enough to accommodate the expected number of guests.

Local participants will spend the first day discussing relevant and important concerns in their respective towns and cities. The final output during the fist day will then be presented to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who is expected to grace the occasion.

Versoza brushed off speculations that the activity will be used as a venue for the local chief executives to discuss and recommend certain moves regarding the resignation of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC).

"Only the President can decide on that matter and whatever it is that will be discussed during the assembly is already beyond the knowledge of the convenor," he said.

Other invited participants in the assembly are indigenous peoples from the five provinces of the Davao Region as well as media practitioners who are also welcomed to listen and witness the discussion.

Versoza said that the organizers are not seeing any problem on the peace and order situation of the place despite the series of military and New People's Army encounters that happened in the nearby provinces.

Meanwhile, everything is set and ready for the event as most of the invited participants have already confirmed attendance. (PIA) [top]
