DepEd LCC to launch 2008 National Literacy Awards February 5

Quezon City (4 February) -- The Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) is inviting the media to the launching of the 2008 National Literacy Awards (NLA) on Tuesday, February 5, at SEAMEO-INNOTECH, Commonwealth Avenue, QC.

LCC, administratively attached to the Department of Education, is a national policy-making advisory and coordinating body that provides an over-all policy and program direction to the country¢s efforts to universalize literacy.

NLA aims to recognize individuals and organizations both private and government that have contributed in literacy development in their communities.

Cities and municipalities such as Antipolo, San Fernando, La Union, Tanjay, Tagum and Sorsogon were awarded in recent years for implementing projects that improved the literacy and livelihood skills among their poor constituents.

The program will begin at 10:30 am with House Committee on Basic Education Chairman Del R. De Guzman as guest.

Joining Congressman De Guzman in this occassion are Secretary and PIA Director General Conrado A. Limcaoco Jr., Education Undersecretary Ramon C. Bacani and Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Austere A. Panadero.

There will be a brief press conference after the program. Lunch will be served afterwards. (PIA) [top]
