Palay harvest in Negros Occidental posts slight increase in 2007

Negros Occ. (5 February) -- The province' Palay production in 2007 slightly increased compared to harvest in 2006, Provincial Agricultural Statistics Officer Joeli Cabarles of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) here, said.

In 2006 the province' palay production reached 413,000 metric tons while last year's production was placed at 414,000 metric tons.

Corn production on the other hand was up by 10 percent from 63,000 metric tons in 2006 to 71,000 metric tons in 2007.

Production of other crops like vegetables, non-food and other industrial crops also slightly went up, Cabarles told PIA.

He said the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics will continue to do their mandate of monitoring and conducting surveys on agriculture, animal products and other produce that the BAS normally monitors. (PIA-LOL) [top]
