Commentary: With new leadership, people expect a reinvigorated House of Representatives

Tacloban City (February 6) -- It has always been said that there is nothing more permanent than change. With the change of leadership comes an added strength to the organization. New leadership brings new hope, reinkindled enthusiasm. New leadership comes as a wake up call for an organization to bring back the dream, the soul, the common vision.

After the long day on February 4 and early morning of February 5, the members of the House have given their vote of confidence to Davao representative Prospero Nograles, the first speaker to have come from Mindanao.

With the election of a new Speaker of the House, the people expects a reinvigorated House of Representatives.

It is hoped that the legislators will set aside divisiveness caused by the nominal voting process and buckle down to work for the passage of important legislation for the benefit of their constituents and the country as a whole.

There are so many pending bills which urgently needs to be passed. Take the immediate action on the pending Renewable Bill for one, which is urgently needed to be passed in order to accelerate the development of renewable and indigenous sources of energy to wean the country from its dependence on imported oil.

New Speaker of the House himself said that he hopes to improve the image of the House.

What a better way to change the people's outlook on the House than by working hard and well to put the House in order and to fast track the passage of the urgent bills. (PIA 8) [top]
