Commentary: ZTE deal issue the least of public's concern nowadays
Tacloban City (February 8) -- Already hackneyed by the continues political bickerings, hullabaloos and mudslinging, the NBN-ZTE Broadband deal issue is the least of the public's worry nowadays. They believe there are more important concerns that must be tackled.
Why continue to pursue the issue when the deal was not consumated afterall?
The detractors, by continuously blaming the President for any issue, are showing their true colors. By their call on the President to resign because of the issued, they betrayed the real intent behind the so-called investigation supposedly in aid of legislation.
They cannot fool the people, Sir. They are not after truth and justice and making laws, they simply cannot wait for the 2010 elections so they want to bring this government down.
How true what has always been said that the greed for power and its minions are the same in all countries and in all ages. It marks its victim; denounces it; and excites public odium and public hatred, to conceal its unconcealable motives.
And so the people can no longer be deceived. They would rather go on with their lives as the economic prospects of the country has never been better. They would rather work and cushion themselves from the impact of the impending world recession because of the continuous oil price increases.
In the meantime, the President has directed the Department of Justice to conduct preliminary investigation against those who may be liable for violation of procurement laws as well as anti-graft laws in connection with the cancelled NBN-ZTE project.
Suffice to say, there is a proper forum for this case and so the proper office should be allowed to do its job.
The country has been blessed to experience economic growth which it has not experienced in decades. The time should then be spent at working on how to sustain these blessings or turn them to greatness.
Now is the time for greatness, not for greed. It is a time not just for powerful word, but for compassionate and unifying action. (PIA 8) [top]
