By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (13 February) -- The Senior Citizen Merrimakers chapter will celebrate its 3rd anniversary on February 28 with the less fortunate children. This year's theme is: "Nakatatanda: Tanglaw ng Kabataan at Lipunan."

Senior Citizen Merrimakers chapter president Rose Pangcog, in a meeting yesterday at her residence at Matina said lined-up activities for the 3rd anniversary celebration are being prepared which will include: visitation and assisting less fortunate children; physical fitness to be sponsored by a Barangay; visitation for the Home for the Aged in Tagum; Merrimakers singing and dancing; and other socialization among senior citizen members.

During the senior citizens meeting, chapter president Pangcog informed members that Vice Mayor Sara Duterte will sponsor senior citizen members visit to the People's Park on February 16 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm to enable senior citizens to witness the beauty of the newest park in the city and enjoy its unique scenery.

Ms. Pangcog, who is celebrating her birthday on February 17th decided to celebrate her natal day with the less-privileged persons and donate some food and other materials for the less fortunate and coincide her celebration on the 3rd year celebration of Senior Citizen Merrimakers chapter.

Pangcog cited its 3rd year celebration on the significant role of older persons as models of the young generation as well as serving as guiding posts of society, being the repository of Filipino values and traditions.

Elder persons in the midst are the grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, neighbors, co-workers, godparents, spiritual leaders, teachers, counselors and friends who are 60 years old and over. They provide the necessary guidance and direction to every life they touch, she said.

The annual observance advocates to every Filipino to value and honor the senior citizens by showing their genuine love, care and respect for the elderlies not only during this time but throughout their lifetime, she further said.

Working committees for the 3rd year anniversary include: Food committee chaired by Mrs. Rose Balicat; with members: Norma Madalihan, Lucy de leon and Lita Leyson;

Invitation committee chaired by Cora Tinasas with members: Col. Abraham Maghari Jr., Edith Tenesio and Prescilla Divinagracia; and
