Exec urges Davao City's landed, well-off to donate land

Tagum City, Davao del Norte (19 February) -- Davao City Administrator Wendel Avisado called on the City's landed and well-off to donate a parcel of land which could be used for building a new Davao City Hall.

Witnessing the ground-breaking ceremony of the new Tagum City Hall, Avisado confessed feeling "envious" of the new development in the neighboring city.

"Kinsa may dili maibog," (who would not be jealous?) he said referring to the City hall.

The 10-year old Tagum City is expected to have its P200 million new city hall completed next year, standing on the 15-hectare donated lot from Davao business magnate Jesus V. Ayala who personally came over to sign the Deed of Donation.

Avisado challenged landed individuals in Davao City to come forward and "follow what JVA had done".

He had doubts if the city government of Davao would be able to put up a new city hall without a donated land as this could spark controversies and negative speculation.

"Bibili pa tayo ng lupa? Then loan for the building construction? If no one would donate, there's no way that this (new city hall construction) will ever happen," he said.

He said a five-hectare to 10-hectare donated land would be enough to build a 10-storey new Davao City Hall which he said would change the landscape of the city's urban center.

Meanwhile, Avisado appreciated the manner in which the new Tagum City Hall would be built through handling it by local government administration.

He said the city government would have a sort of flexibility in the building construction and that it could save so much that it could use for add-on facilities, "as long as you have the right people to do the job".

He was amazed at the immense progress of Tagum City as he gave credit to the local officials "who have worked to achieved its development plans." (PIA/JMDA) [top]
