PIA Press Release

Stop political noise, says Davao Norte exec

By Noel Baguio

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (19 February) -- Governor Rodolfo P. Del Rosario echoed the call of the local chief executives of the country for the political bickering to stop as it is not doing the country any good.

Del Rosario sponsored the "Manifesto of Support" for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that was adopted by the governors during the 2nd General Assembly of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) in Pili, Camarines Sur last week.

The two-page resolution pledged the unequivocal support of the governors to the president amid renewed moves to destabilize the government.

In an exclusive interview, Gov. Del Rosario revealed he sponsored the manifesto on the premise that the expose of Jun Lozada on the botched MBN-ZTE deal, which he believes to be just a rehash of what CHED Chairman Romulo Neri has already presented to the Senate investigation last year, is doing disservice to the country.

The governor cited the economic gains under the leadership of President Arroyo, which prompted the local chief executives to pledge their full support to the president.

He particularly mentioned about the national deficit last year that accounted for only P9 billion when it was expected to be P63 billion. He also cited the foreign exchange receipt that has grown up tremendously, adding the country's GDP last year, which registered at 7.3 % is the highest in the last 18 years.

"So, let us not try to stop this progress that is happening in the country by allowing this investigation to continue in the Senate." The Governor appealed.

Del Rosario said he filed the resolution as a unanimous call by the governors for all sectors to defy any unconstitutional move to unseat the president. It also reflected the league's call on the opposition to allow the president to finish her term.

He further chided the detractors of the President who are calling for her resignation or ouster, reiterating that Metro Manila is not the whole Philippines.

"I don't think they will succeed because the people are already tired of all these. It is only 2 years to go so why don't we allow her to finish her term." nailed down the governor.

He urged all sectors to buckle down to work instead and continue helping the economy for the benefit of the people. (PGO-ID-PIA XI) [top]
