Samar gov shares rice on her birthday
Catbalogan City (26 February) -- Catbaloganons have been feeling the generosity of Samar Governor Milagrosa Tan in her gift-giving to Samarenos as she turned fifty years old yesterday, the very same day of EDSA People Power 1 anniversary.
The gift-giving spree started in February 22 and would last until the 29th of February as announced by her staff.
On Saturday, the heavy rains did not stop the multitude of poor Catbaloganons from filling up the whole Imelda Park Plaza at the Capitol Site.
They were treated to a dining in of an Arroz caldo meal; a take out of two kilos of rice; free haircut and a treat of Mila Tan's own version of 'pera o bayong' featuring tricycle drivers and market vendors.
A medical dental mission will also last until the end of the month not only for the indigent ones but for all those who would care to queue for hours under the rain to wait for their turn.
This writer observed the presence of army men to provide security and order in the big crowd turn-out.
Representative Sharee Ann Tan of the second district of Samar and daughter to Tan, graced the occasion and announced on stage that, that was her mama's way of saying thank you to her supporters.
Last night, promenaders at the Imelda Park were treated to a live concert and fireworks display.
Critics say that the governor is starting to employ her 'formula' of winning people to her side by holding her medical missions and rice –giving all over Samar. (PIA-Samar) [top]
